Impact of trade union activities on employee performance

 

The Trade union also known as employee’s union, is a group of coworkers or colleagues who have joined forces to achieve a common goal such as by collective action, defending and promoting their common interests and enhancing the workplace environment. A trade union negotiates on behalf of its members with the employer or management & under its leadership, negotiates labour contracts. A trade union is a group of employees formed to bargain with employers through management. (Worden, 2009). Trade unions are labour organisations formed to enhance the position, pay, and working circumstances of their members & Workers' organisations that use collective bargaining to better their working conditions and social standing. (Koumenta, 2011)

 

 


Trade unions are employee organisations whose principal goal is to signify worker’s interests to employers. (Armstrong & Taylor, 2014). According to Deery and Iverson (2005), Trade union actions can be a beneficial or negative impact on organizational productivity. Trade unions can have a favorable impact on an organization's productivity by successfully negotiating. In addition, trade unions can potentially significantly impair companies’ productivity by causing employees to quit working or to engage in sabotage. According to Amah and Ahiauzu (2013), Organizations that are unionized are more productive than nonunionized organisations. that trade unions may help organisations become more productive. Strikes by labour unions are prevalent when trade unions fail to peacefully negotiate for better terms, which can diminish organisational productivity (Cote, 2013).

 

Their working circumstances are being improved (Kambilinya, 2004). Also, when its members have problems at work, trade unions represent them, Employees for layoffs, retrenchment, promotion, and transfer negotiate wages, working hours, vacations, and changes to working practices. Most trade unions also provide training to their members on topics such as employment rights, health and safety, and other topics. (Ismail, 2013). that trade unions play a vital role in the productivity of organisations. They fight for employee’s interest and help in solving employee grievances. labor unionism and its effects on organizational productivity & that use of labor union enables an organization solve conflicts thus, increase employee performance. Also, the impact of labor union on employees’ performance weak bargaining power hence employees not being able to achieve organizational goals. hence, create a sustainable financial base and also Increase its marketing strategies, offer training and capacity building, develop a relationship between union leaders and its member’s and exercise good governance.

    questioned, trade unions play a pivotal role in worker-performance in
    several ways, which include union protects the right of staffs, makes
    sure all workers work in accordance with the rules and regulation keep in
    place, and brings unity among members and a platform where all their
    worries are table.
